A Review of Websites About eBook Readers and eBooks
As eBooks and their associated eBook readers become increasingly more popular, particularly with the launch of Amazon's Kindle in the UK and Europe, the topic is receiving more and more website and blog support. Much of this is very repetitious, with the best content coming from those sites with a longer history. Here are our top eBook and e-reader websites:

MobileRead.com

MobileRead is a comprehensive blog and forum covering most topics related to eBooks and eReaders. It's home page summarizes the activity on its major pages: the forum itself, a Wiki, offering information on just about any related topic you can think of and a developer's Hub, offering an environment in which developers of eBook related projects can collaborate: they must be open-source, meaning that the projects are free to use by forum members.

The forum itself appears to be very popular, with posts being made practically every day on topics ranging from books and readers to software and uploads, and make sure you read the free offers - you can get some great stuff here free of charge, ranging from open source to advertising promotions. The forum also has a section for non-English speakers, the German and French forums appearing most popular which is unsurprising considering the nationality of the site administrator.

The Wiki offers a whole heap of information on eBooks (reviews, formats, uploads, libraries, etc.), hardware (readers, e-ink and audio books) and software and also a FAQ section and information on the basics for beginners. This in itself would be sufficient to render MobileRead worth visiting, without all the other good stuff it contains, but it is the Developer Hub that really underlines the professionalism, not only of MobileRead itself, but also of many of those that use it.

The Development Hub gives details of a number of e-reader projects hosted at the developer subdomain, dev.mobileread.com, and also provides details on tools that developers would find useful such as PDF tools, scanning applications and MobiPocket format generators. Anybody with breaking news or details of anything they have read or are working on, can visit the 'Submit News' page and offer their submission for publication on the site by means of a simple form.

Registered to a Swiss, Alexander Turcic, MobileRead.com has registration data as far back as 2002, and is therefore a mature blog and forum with a large worldwide following. The information it provides on the subject is comprehensive and useful, and little wonder that this takes the Number 1 spot in this review.

eBOOK88.com

Ebook88 is a website intrinsically devoted to eBooks, their benefits and uses, writing, formats, submission and so on, but also offers reviews of Ereaders, though these are not its main focus. The site owner, Linda Shen, named this Hong Kong based site after her recorder, the Music88, and the site has been operational since 2002. While it is not as well visited as MobileRead, the website offers a great deal of useful information for those interested in eBooks.
One of the benefits of visiting eBook88 is that they offer lists of eBooks, both to purchase and available free of charge, many of particularly use to students searching for eBooks on their subjects. Most technical books are very expensive, and it should be possible to find electronic versions at a lower price: but how do you find whether they are available in eBook format? eBook88 can help you to solve that problem with its free eBook directory that you can use to find eBooks on any topic.

If you are looking for a technical title, simply enter it into the directory and you can find it is available from any of the sources to which the site is affiliated. You can also use the directory to submit your own eBooks for publication: Linda Shen knows how difficult this can be because she claims to have started it up because she was seeking a means of publishing her own eBook on recorder teaching. She found it extremely difficult to find any sources that would accept recently written technical eBooks.

Project Gutenburg (gutenberg.org)

Project Gutenberg was the first distributor of free eBooks. The originator of eBooks (in 1971) was Michael Hart who founded Project Gutenberg which is the most used source of free and public domain eBooks in the world.

If you are looking for a free eBook you first come here, although it is important that you understand the degrees of freedom before you use the book. Not all of these are in the public domain: some are copyright-free but others are not. Make sure that you read the copyright license inside the eBook and adhere to its requirements when using it.

Otherwise, Project Gutenberg books can be used to modify and republish as your own, to provide free of charge to your website visitors, to sell in a modified form or to use as part of an advertising promotion. eBooks that are still protected by copyright can be used in certain ways, such as giving them away free, but cannot be sold or generally altered in any way.

It is a great source of eBooks if you are seeking material to read on your e-reader, and is free to use, and you are invited to offer a donation if you wish.

EpaperCentral.com

EPaperCentral is a site that is dedicated to electronic paper, e-ink and e-readers. It is website offering RSS feeds on this general topic, and also a forum on a number of topics that does not appear to be well visited. However, the site itself is worth visiting for the information it provides.

If you own an e-reader and want to understand more about the e-paper and e-ink that enables it to read so crisp and sharp, and look almost like pages of a real book, then ePaperCentral.com is for you. It offers reviews of readers, though the feature that seems most exciting is its technology review.

When you visit the technology page you will find innovations such as Bridgestone's new alternative e-reader display medium to e-ink that uses another form of electrophoretic technology and its own electronic display powder that offers the first real challenge to e-Ink's product. I could go on and on about other technological wonders I read about on this page, and it also operates like a blog, offering the opportunity for readers to make comments and publicize their own experiences.

ePaper Central is the ideal website if you want to expand your knowledge of eBook readers beyond just the products and have a closer look at how the text is presented on your screen. The technology involved is sometimes mind-blowing, and if you want to stay ahead of everybody else, then this might be just the information you need. For example, according to the article "Electronic Paper Technology: Tomorrow's Paper", the e-paper display is so light that it can be folded or curled, while still retaining the image and does not lose it even if power supply is not available (Digital Book Readers).

EbookReadersReview.co.uk

eBook Readers Review is fundamentally a good review site for eReaders, offering both reviews, readers' comments and news on the e-reader front. It is a simple blog site with few bells and whistles, and does what it promises to do: provide independent reviews of eBook readers that are not clouded by preconceptions or a desire by anyone to justify their purchase.

These reviews are offered in a number of formats, of particular interest being a comparison of readers according to screen size. Thus, you can read a comparison of eBook readers with 5 inch screens, 6 inch screens and so on, and also in-depth reviews of individual machines. Also offered are reviews of file formats and other topics related of interest to eReader users.

If you are considering purchasing an eBook reader and don't know where to start looking, then this is a great site for you. You can compare what is on the market and make up your own mind based upon knowledgeable but dispassionate product reviews.

Each of these websites are leaders in their own niche, and are musts to visit for anybody interested in the technology and practical uses of eBooks and eReaders. With the increasing popularity of e-readers and this new way of reading books, come the inevitable high competition and the equally inevitable knock-offs and copies. By using these sites you can learn how to distinguish the good from the bad; the real from the copy.

Sony Prs-700 - Digital Book Reader
Digital book readers are used for reading digital books. Also known as E-book readers, these have been in the market for awhile now. Therefore, it was really not much of a surprise when Sony came out with its PRS-700 version. The Sony Digital Book reader is an advanced version of its range of e-book readers. Its competitors are Amazon’s Kindle and Sony’s very own LIBRI’e besides iRex iLiad and Bookeen’s CyBook. Technology news has a wide range of e-book readers whose essential formats are the same. Basically an e-book reader is used for the purpose of displaying e-books. To give an example a Sony e-book reader has an interface which is hooked online for the purchase of e-books from Sony Connect. This interface is somewhat akin to iTunes Store. The Sony Digital Book reader displays Adobe PDF besides JPEG files and others. It can play MP3 and other audio files as well. There are some proprietary laws. Any e-book purchased by you can be read by 6 devices at least one of these must be a pc. So really you can register 5 others to share your books.

Sony PRS-700 – a unique digital book reader

The PRS-700 version scores over its predecessors the 500 and the 505. Firstly, the 700 has a touch screen which works as a keyboard not found in the earlier models. Secondly, the pages can be turned over with tactile gestures as well as buttons. Thirdly, the predecessors had a very slow scrolling rate. This has been rectified by the 700’s screen controller. Incidentally, the 700 also has better zoom capabilities. Compared to Amazon’s Kindle the 700 is ergonomically sounder, has a longer battery life and is more user friendly. It has a memory card and can store e-books in the thousands. It does however have a few drawbacks if you do nitpicking! It does not have a built in wireless, there are glare problems associated with the 700’s screen and the 700 does not support audio books. Compared to the Kindle, the 700 is perhaps a tad more difficult to read. However, the 700 is undoubtedly a connoisseur’s choice for the pleasure of reading.

What Is an Ebook Reader?
Ever since computers came around, people always talked about a world where there would be no more need for printed materials. That day hasn't quite come along, but you can now read all of your favorite books on an ebook reader without ever having anything go to print. Most people who buy an ebook reader don't do so in order to save trees or the environment, but rather because it is a more convenient way to read and an immediate way to gain access to information.

An ebook reader is a device that allows you to read books, magazines, and newspapers wherever you are. It has a small screen that allows you to change the size of the type, so that even the visually impaired will be able to see what they are reading. In fact, if you struggle with reading normal paperback books because of the size of the type, then an ebook reader is ideal for you.

A lot of people prefer this type of device over traditional books because you can get your hands on a book you want in a matter of seconds. You can browse for books from various sources on the reader itself, download the material, and start reading right away. You don't have to wait days or even weeks for something to arrive in the mail, and you don't have to go to the bookstore either, only to find that they don't have your book in stock.

There are many benefits to this device, not least of which is the immediate access to virtually all of the world's literature. You will also find that many older books (usually those that were written in the 1920s or earlier) are available for free, so you can catch up on the classics without paying a single cent! This includes, obviously, all of Shakespeare, much of early American and British literature, and a lot of old magazines, too.

One thing that a lot of people use their ebook reader for is reading the daily paper and their favorite magazines. Whether you buy a subscription to them or read their free versions, it is kind of fun to turn your reader on each day to catch up on the news. There is a huge variety of publications available in electronic form, with more of them coming out every day, so you will never have a shortage of reading.

Reading Books-An Important Part of Our Life
"Books are the best friends." A very popular saying that is undoubtedly a truth. The only thing that does not decay with time is knowledge and which is continuously involved in enhancing our lives. The life is rewarded by knowledge and reading in many ways fosters mental development, spiritual enlightenment and social development. But now with the popularity of computers and video games, the love for reading books has faded away. Now, people find difficult to dedicate some time for reading and hence, are slowly and gradually forgetting the benefits of reading. But lucky are those who are aware of the reading benefits and have developed reading as their habit and interest. No doubt that reading broadens our horizon, gives a new direction to the mind to think, improves the vocabulary and creates awareness for other people and culture.

There are also many health benefits of reading, it acts as a stress buster, improves the moods and relieves stress by diverting the mind and taking it to a different world of imaginations. It is the responsibility of parents to inculcate the habits of reading and tell about the benefits of reading to children. Children have a very positive impact if the stories are read aloud. They start looking at the story from a different prospective, they understand the structure of the story more clearly and sometimes they also develop empathy. Whether they read a fiction, a fairy tale or a course book, reading aloud would enhance their creative thinking and they will be able to visualize the thing in a better way. So these are some of the benefits of reading aloud. Here, I am going to remind you of the importance of reading for children as well as adults.

Reading, I think is the best pass time. If you are crazy about reading, then it's the best thing you have done to yourself. Benefits of reading books can be reaped by one and all. Not only knowledge but also satisfaction is what it gives an individual!

It is very important to inculcate the habit of reading right from childhood. You can put in children the habit of reading bedtime stories. Reading during the early years helps the child in improving his/her language skills. The child learns to recognize written words. Reading when young helps you in your later life. Studies say that reading before going to bed helps the child feel secure and comfortable while sleeping. Emotions can be best understood through the characters in stories.

A child who grows up reading is definitely enriched as a young person. He/she automatically takes to reading. If the habit of reading is formed during an early age, reading soon becomes the person's hobby. Teenage years are the growing and developing years of one's life. This is the period of one's mental growth as well. So it is nice to read good books during these years. Youngsters often relate to the story of heroes and try to emulate their behaviors. They idealize their favorite authors. They dream about their future and plan for it. Feeding the brain with loads of information from all around the world during this phase of life helps a person base his ideals on positivities. Reading helps the person shape his/her life.

Reading is an activity that keeps us occupied. Reading results in the fruitful usage of time. It helps us get rid of our anxieties. It diverts our mind from monotony and boredom. It is one of the best ways of relaxation. Reading novels or stories takes us to a new world where we forget our sorrows and fears. Books make very good friends.Books and the web are the richest sources of information. They cover a wide range of topics and store an enormous amount of information. Numerous websites covering different areas of information or innumerable books that flood the libraries tell us of the vastness of knowledge. Reading leads us only to read more in the never-ending pursuit of knowledge.

When technology was not so much forward that it created some milestones in the form of computer and television, at that time of the century people used to read books as their primary leisure activity. They would spend hours in reading books that depicted travel stories that ignited the imagination of the reader far away to some unknown lands of fairies or aliens. But the times have changed and MP3 players have replaced All India Radio and people today have lost their innate passion for reading. But this does not mean that one should neglect the books completely. Recent studies have proven that at least half hours of reading a day keeps a person abreast with varied styles of writing and improves the vocabulary.

As compared to other means of entertainment that includes listening to music, playing games such as cricket, etc and watching television, reading books is the most productive one as one improves vocabulary and improves word power. Additionally scientific researches have proved that children and teenagers who love reading have comparatively higher IQ level as compared to those who watch television. Moreover, they are dexterous, creative and do better in school and education and therefore teachers recommend parents to inculcate the benefits of reading in their kids right from the time when they are young. Not only this, those students who start this habit of reading books from their early childhood days are observed to display extraordinary language skills as well as impeccable ability to grasp variance in phonics.

It is known that reading increases mental development and stimulates the muscles of eyes thereby improving concentration and observation ability. Not only this, reading is one of a kind activity that involves higher concentration and also improves the conversational or communication skills of the readers. Reading enables you to learn new found words and phrases that can be used in day to day conversations and this habit becomes a healthy addiction so that one gathers their own information banks right in their minds. Not only this, reading offers the readers an insight of varied cultures of different countries and places and makes you sensitive towards world affairs.

Sell Cookbooks - Get Cash Fast - Sell Your Old Cookbooks!
It's a well-kept secret but many people are selling their old cookbooks to raise some cash in these harder economic times. They want to keep it a secret so they don't have as much competition. Because they've found that after selling their own old cookbooks that they can easily pick up the best used, old, rare, vintage and antique cookbooks at garage sales, yard sales, estate sales, etc.

The average person will have no idea that their cook books are valuable and could bring them a lot of money. They just consider them to be old cookbooks with no real value. If they do wonder, they don't know how to go about finding out what they're worth. The average antique appraiser is not going to know without a lot of research either.

Vendors, who are in business to put on garage sales, are completely unaware of the value of any of these cook books. These old, collectible cookbooks go for unbelievable prices of fifty cents to a dollar easily.
You can take advantage of this and earn yourself some nice cash. You can sell cook books for much more than you bought them for.

Go through your own old cookbooks first, if you have any, or through you mother's grandmother's or relative's books to start with so you can build up a little knowledge.

What to look for. Although there are hundreds of cook books you can make a lot of money with you want to at first concentrate on the Better Homes and Garden Cookbooks and Betty Crocker Cookbooks. Look for those books that are from the 1950s and 1960s and older. Also look for the plaid covers or pie covers. You can also look for the Betty Crocker Boys and Girl Cookbooks. This is a good place to start because they're plentiful and still bring in a lot of money.

What you should forget about - newer cook books are generally not going to be sought after by collectors. They can easily get these. The only time you can make any money with these is if the publisher did a short print run and it's a small publishing company but this is usually not the case. Even then you may not get much for it.

You can sell cookbooks to collectors - old, rare, antique or vintage cookbooks - because they buy year 'round and the state of the economy doesn't make a bit of difference to them. In fact they know they can find even more as people are finding out that old cookbooks have value and selling them. Of course there's a lot more to learn and a lot of secrets in the cook book market but too much to go into in a short article. You can quickly learn how to sell old cookbooks.
